Histori

BMX began in the early 1970s in the United States when children began spurring their bikes on a dirt track in southern California, inspired by motocross stars at the time. The size and availability of Schwinn Sting-Ray and other wheelie bikes make them the natural motor of choice for this race, as they are easily adjusted for better handling and performance. BMX racing is a phenomenon in the mid-1970s. Standard off-road road cycling kids, around a tailor-made track in California. The 1972 motorcycle racing documentary On Any Sunday is generally credited with inspiring the national movement in the United States; the opening scene shows the kids riding their Sting-Rays off the street. By the middle of the decade, the sport reached a critical mass, and manufacturers began to create bicycles specifically designed for sport.

UK BMX Blast

In the UK, BMX is a fad that started in the early 1980s, exactly 1982/3, when it became a "must" bike for kids and teenagers. Previously a small niche area, BMX exploded today became the dominant bike for younger riders, with older teenagers and even adults becoming famous names through publications such as the BMX Bi weekly, featuring big names like Tim March and Andy Ruffell. The shift to freestyle from racing came in 1985 with a popular style moving from chrome frames and contrasting components in blue or red black to the norm, for brightly colored bikes in one color only, including wheel wheels and even matching tires. Since BMX exploded into the streets of England so suddenly, it was probably inevitable that it would explode at the same pace, as the kids who rode the bikes left school and went to work. This is true, because in 1986/7 sales in the UK had dropped dramatically, with the new ATB or "mountain bike" taking off and soon becoming adult adult bikes, again from California where it had begun in mid-year. 1970s.

US Timeline

George E. Esser founded the National Bicycle League as a non-profit bike motocross watchdog organization in 1974. Before they founded NBL, Esser and his wife, Mary, approved a motorcycle race with the American Motocross Association (AMA). Two of their sons, Greg and Brian, ride motorcycles, but also enjoy riding and racing BMX with their friends. It was their children's interest, and the lack of BMX organizations in the East, which encouraged Esser to start NBL in Florida.

In 1977, the American Bicycle Association (ABA) was organized as a national sanctioning body for emerging sports. In April 1981, the International BMX Federation was founded, and the first world championship was held in 1982. Since January 1993, BMX has been integrated into Union Cycliste Internationale.

Freestyle BMX is now one of the most important events at the annual Summer X Games Extreme Sports and Ethnies Backyard Jam, held mainly on the East and West coasts of the United States. The popularity of the sport has increased as it is relatively easy and the availability of places to ride and do the trick.

In 2003, the International Olympic Committee made BMX a full Olympic sports medal for the 2008 Summer Olympics in Beijing, China, and M? Ris? Tromberg (male, for Latvia) and Anne-Caroline Chausson (women, for France) became the first Olympic Champion.

Many talented BMX riders go to other cycling sports like downhill, including Jared Graves Olympia Australia, Eric Carter, and young BMX racer Aaron Gwin.
