Pool is a drawing shape drawn using rice flour/lime/lime/stone powder often using natural/synthetic colored powder in Tamil Nadu, Karnataka, Telangana, Andhra Pradesh, Kerala and parts of Goa, Maharashtra , Indonesia, Malaysia, Thailand and several other Asian countries. A Pond is a geometric line drawing consisting of curved arches, drawn around a dotted line pattern. In South India, it is practiced extensively by Hindu female family members in front of their homes. Ponds are regionally known by different names in India, Raangolee in Maharashtra, Aripan in Mithila, Hase and Raongoli in Kannada in Karnataka, Muggulu in Andhra Pradesh and Telangana. More elaborate ponds are drawn and colors are often added during holidays and special events.

History

The ponds are considered to bring prosperity to homes. Every morning in Tamil Nadu, millions of women draw ponds on the ground with white rice flour. Throughout the day, the pictures continue to run, drifting in the rain, or in the wind; newly created the next day. Every morning before sunrise, the house floor, or wherever the Pool can be drawn, cleaned with water and the muddy floors were swept well to create a flat surface. The ponds are generally taken while the surface is still wet so the design will continue to be better. Even white stone powders (???????????????????) can be used to create a Pool. Occasionally, cow dung is also used to clean the floor. In some cultures, cow dung is believed to have antiseptic properties and hence provides a literal limit of protection for the home. This also gives a contrast to the white powder.

Decoration is not the main purpose of a Pond. In the past, ponds were drawn with rough rice flour, so ants did not have to walk too far or too long to eat. Rice powder also invites birds and other small creatures to eat it, thus welcoming other creatures to the home and daily life of a person: a daily appreciation for a harmonious living together. This is an invitation sign to welcome everyone home, not the least of which is Lakshmi, the Goddess of prosperity and wealth. Patterns range from geometric and mathematical line drawings around the point matrix to form free and closed forms of art. Folklore has evolved into a mandate that lines have to be resolved so as to symbolically prevent evil spirits from entering the interior of the form, and thus they are prevented from entering the inside of the house.

It used to be a matter of pride to be able to draw large complex patterns without raising hands from the floor or standing between them. Moon Margazhi is highly eagerly awaited by young women, who will then demonstrate their expertise by covering the entire width of the road with one large pool.

In the pond pattern, many designs come from magical motifs and abstract designs combined with philosophical and religious motives that have been combined together. Motives may include fish, birds and other animal images to symbolize the unity of man and beast. Sun, moon and other zodiac symbols are also used. Triangle pointing downward represented women; triangle pointed upward represented human. The circle represents nature while the square is represented culturally. The lotus represents the womb. Pentagram represents Venus and five elements.

The pattern of ritual pools made for special occasions such as weddings often stretches along the way. Many of these created patterns have been passed down from generation to generation, from mother to daughter.

Seasonal messages like welcome (???????) can also be used in the Pool. Volunteering to draw a pond at the temple is sometimes done when the devotee's wishes are fulfilled. Pond design art has found its way into the future through social networking sites like Facebook. Many Pool artists have followers of online fans and play a role in making the Art of swimming form an important part of contemporary South Indian art.

Variant

For special occasions limestone and red brick powder for contrast are also used. Although ponds are usually done with dried rice flour, for long life, dilute rice paste or even paint is also used. Modern interpretations have accommodated lime, and newer vinyl stickers.

Though not as elegant as other contemporary Indians, Rangoli, which is highly colored, the South Indian Pool is all about symmetry, precision, and complexity. Due to its complexity, trying to figure out exactly how this design is drawn can be a challenge that makes some viewers feel good.

Pattern

  • The pattern in which the stroke (Neli, Kambi, Sikku in Tamil) runs once at every point (Pulli), and goes to the starting point (endless/cycle), as a largely geometric figure. Stroke is referred to as the Neli of the tortuous line. Stroke has Knot structure (Sikku).
  • pattern uses only part of lattice point. If that's the case, the same pattern or different pattern fill/use the remaining grid points. Most of the time, these patterns together end up being a complex pattern.
  • The pattern in which a stroke runs at any point is not entirely, but is open.
  • The pattern in which the sweep (Kodu/Kotto) is connected between the points. Sometimes it represents the type of thing, flower, or animal etc.
  • a pattern in which the dots are arranged in a radial arrangement, called Lotus.
  • patterns drawn in freestyle and mostly colored.

Research

  • The mathematical properties of the Pool are being used in the field of computer science. The pond pattern was studied and the algorithm was developed to regenerate the pool design with the different patterns that have been done.
  • The algorithm for drawing a pool is used in the development of Picture of computer software .
  • The ponds are used for research in Computational Anthropology.
  • Since the Ponds have a strong relationship with contemporary art and art history, Columns are used in art and media.
  • The ponds are also used to simplify the complex representation of protein structures for easy understanding.
