The seventh generation of the Honda Civic was a car manufactured by Honda from 2000 to 2005. It was released in September 2000 as a 2001 model. Compared to its predecessor, it retains the same exterior dimensions, but increased significantly in interior space so that crashing the Civic into the car size segment that is compact. There is a flat rear floor, providing better comfort for rear seat passengers. This generation left the front double wishbone suspension, which has been used in the fourth or sixth generation, replacing it with MacPherson strut.
In his introduction in 2000, he won the Car of the Year Japan Award for a fourth time record, and won the Japan Automotive Researchers and Journalists' Car of the Year Award in 2001.
The 115 hp (86 kW) engine supports all Civics (except EX and Si in USDM or 2.0 i-VTEC in Thailand), up 9 hp (7 kW) from the previous model. Power on the EX remains at 127 hp (95 kW), and all non-Si and 2.0 i-VTEC USDMs in Thai engines are stroked up to 1.7 liters. Smaller engines continue to be available for the entire world.

History
In 2002, the 2003 models were introduced with a new tail light that created a circle when illuminated and also got a revised dial and a new wheel design. In September 2003, the 2004 model Civics received a front end facelifted (designed in 2002) with new headlights, bumpers, and grille; it also receives side skirts. In September 2004, the Special Edition trim level was introduced for the 2005 model year, available as LX or EX Special Edition.
The hybrid version arrived in North America in spring 2002 as a 2003 model year imported from Japan. It used both the main gasoline engine 1.3Ã, L I4 and additional electric motors, generating 93Ã, hp combined. The electric motor is powered by an array of batteries charged by regenerative braking during deceleration, thereby reducing exhaust emissions and extending fuel mileage to 46 mpg mpg city/51 highway with manual transmission in accordance with EPA fuel mileage estimates.
Sport hatchback model called Si was launched in August 2005 for the European market only. This model featured from the launch of 1.4Ã, L I-DSI and 1.8Ã, L i-VTEC with ratings of 83à ¢ â,‰ â¬, PS (138Ã, hp/103Ã,kW) , with 177 and 207Ã,ò/hour (110 and 129 mph) top speed and 14.2 and 13.6 s 0-100 km/h sprint. Sport Hatchback is also available with a 2.2 liter I-CTDI diesel engine from the Accord, Edix/FR-V and CR-V, rated at 140 PS (138 hp/103 kW) and capable of 205 km/h (127 mph) and accelerates from 0-60 mph in 8.4 seconds.
Starting with this generation, the cabin air filter (also known as a pollen filter) is installed as standard equipment and is located behind an international car drawer.

In Canada, until 2003 there were DX and LX models for sedans and coupes, with the coupe also having Si trim, which is mostly equivalent to the US market EX coup.
In 2002, Honda Canada, in recognition of one million Civic sales in Canada, introduced a limited edition version of the Civic called Civic Coupe Si Veloz ('Veloz' which means 'fast' in Spanish). The Veloz edition adds front, rear and side skirts, rear spoiler, carbon fiber trim pieces, chrome exhaust tip, custom Veloz embroidered floor mat and Veloz badge.
In 2003, the 30th Anniversary Edition was added to all models, as well as the Sport model for the sedan. In 2004, the DX model was replaced by the Special Edition (SE) model and the previous Sport model was replaced by the LX-G trim.
Si/SiR/Type R/2.0 i-VTEC
The EP3 Civic Si from the United States and EP3 Civic SiR Canada is marketed as the North American version of European EP3 Honda Civic Type R. Unlike other generations of Civic Si, Si is not manufactured in Canada or the United States, and it does not share body style or the interior with the USDM Civic (offered only in the form of a sedan and coupÃÆ'à © ©) is sold there. In contrast, the Civic 2002-05 is produced in Swindon, England, and is exported to Canada and the United States while Civic Si Sedan is produced by Honda Automobile Thailand in Ayutthaya, Thailand, as a 2.0 i-VTEC model and exported to ASEAN countries. Si/SiR is the only trim available for hatchback styles in Canada and the United States.
Honda of Europe designed the EP3 Civic Type R hatchback to be marketed in Europe. Then Honda Japan markets the EP3 Civic Type R using the Honda Integra DC5 Japan-spec K20A powertrain using an electric steering rack. The Civic Si re-formed as a hatchback, after being sold only as a coupà © in the previous generation. The body shape of this model is based on the concept of "New Forms", which aims to create a more dynamic look and provide greater stability while traveling on motorcycles or winding country roads. The interior layout also distinguishes itself from other Civic Si generation with shifter mounted on the dashboard. The Ep3 Civic Si hatchback is also used for the second generation Civic Type R sold in Europe and Japan.
Shifted away from the 1.6-liter B-series engine, the seventh generation Civic Si adopted the K-series K20A3 engine used in the Acura RSX base model with 160 bph (120 kW) at 6500 rpm and 132 lbf? Ft (179 N? M) at 5000 rpm. With a redline of 6,800 rpm, Si distance itself from the narrow powerband machine, the high-rpm predecessor, and as a result saw a 20 percent increase in torque. Relatively poor performance compared to competition; the switch to MacPherson struts from a double wishbone suspension resulted in less responsive handling, and a weight increase of nearly 150 lb (68 kg) to 2,744 lb (1,245 kg) contributed to slower acceleration than the lighter '99 -'00 Si. The new front suspension allows for a tighter turning radius than the better handbone handling settings used before. Most weight gain was associated with the chassis' stouter structure when compared to previous generation hatchbacks, with '02 Si boasting a 95 percent torsional rigidity increase and an increase in bending rigidity of 22 percent.
The fifth generation Civic Si generation saw similar performance figures with the previous generation Si, with 7.6 seconds to 60 mph and 15.9 seconds on quarter mile, which is comparable to Ford SVT Focus and Hyundai Tiburon GT V6. Other factors that adversely affect performance include the lack of a limited slip differential, should shift to third gear to gain from zero to 60, and increase the curb weight due to a more rigid chassis. Other changes include switching to electric power steering through hydraulics, and coils on the ignition of the plug.
Features of this generation Si include: Dash mounted shifter, 15 inch (2001-03) or 16 inch wheels (2004-05), air conditioning, electronic power steering, power windows, power lock, remote keyless entry, AM/FM radio, CD player, clock, cruise control, bucket seat, 4 interior cup holder, center console, and folding rear seats.
Unique unique EP3 body styles in the US, designed for the Japanese and European markets, have much more different lighting than most North American designs. While the 2001-03 model has red rear shock signals and combines high/low floodlights, the 2004 and 2005 models have separate high and low double floodlights, individual parking lights in the home of the headlamps, amber bend signals, yellow side turn fender signals, four individual side markers at all angles, and the ability to turn off all the lights while driving.
The 2004-05 model received a small revision. Cosmetic changes include revised lights (double bulb plugging) and rear light designs, standard side skirts, and options for increased HFP (Honda Factory Performance). The suspension is updated with changes from 4 lugs to 5 lug bolts pattern, larger rear wobble bar, and a 15-inch (195/60-15) wheel change to 16-inch wheels (205/55-16). The inside accepts more silver accents instead of chrome (lock button).
