Finck grew up in Marietta, Georgia and played with several unmarked bands based primarily in the Atlanta area, including acts such as Prowess, Bat Your Lashes, Sik Dik (bandmates that included Steve "Holiday" Childress and Michael Allen, currently The Goodies and Greg Thum ), and Impotent Sea Snake.
He joined Nine Inch Nails as part of their 1994-95 band tour for the Self-Destruct Tour and Further Down Spiral after the departure of former guitarist Richard Patrick. Finck appeared with Nine Inch Nails in Woodstock '94, and saw its first official release with them, the Closing video , released in 1997. After the tour finished, he took a play job for a circus troupe. Cirque du Soleil in the original tour of Quidam. In 1997 Finck signed a two-year contract with Guns N 'Roses as a replacement for Slash (who had quit the band at the end of the previous year) and began work on what eventually became the band's long-delayed Chinese democracy album . When two years and over the album is not finished yet, although the song "Oh My God" is released on the soundtrack of End of Days. Whether Finck is played or not on the song in disagreement; The GNR vocalist, Axl Rose, said he did it when Finck himself said he did not do it.
Finck rejoined Nine Inch Nails when the band embarked on their Fragility v1.0 and Fragility v2.0 tour to support the 1999 album The Fragile . The tour was recorded and released as an album/live DVD, And All That Could Have Been , which marked Finck's second release with them. She also played in the studio version of The Day The World Went Away in the companion album Still, which was included with the deluxe version and all that could be and then available as a standalone CD through nin.com. Shortly after the tour ended in 2000 he returned to Guns N 'Roses, playing four performances with them in late 2001 followed by a short tour of Europe and Asia in mid 2002 and live performances at the MTV Video Music Awards. The planned US tour was meant to continue until the remainder of 2002 but was canceled by the promoters after two canceled events caused rioting by fans. Around this time Finck and later-bandmate Buckethead contributed to John Carpenter's Ghosts of Mars soundtrack, playing alongside members of Anthrax's thrash metal group and virtuoso guitar Steve Vai. Once the tour obligations with GNR are met he joins the production of LedZAriel (performances by acrobats set for Led Zeppelin band music).
Finck was invited to rejoin NIN for the tour supporting their 2005 album With Teeth but chose not to and the position was filled by Aaron North. In the summer of 2006, he toured Europe with Guns N 'Roses playing in front of over 700,000 people. They finished with a North American tour for the rest of the year, and went to Mexico, Australia and Japan in 2007.
On April 4, 2008, it was announced through nin.com that Finck would rejoin Nine Inch Nails as a live band member. She later contributed to the album Nine Inch Nails The Slip , earning performance credits with other band members-Josh Freese and Alessandro Cortini.
In November 2008, the long-awaited album 'Guns N' Roses' was released. Finck has a co-writing credits on the song "Better", which was later released as a single. He also plays guitar on every song, performs 7 guitar solos and has additional credits for keyboards, settings and pre-production. He chose to remain with NIN after the album's release and, on March 21, 2009, was officially renamed as Guns N 'Roses lead guitarist by Sixx: A.M. guitarist DJ Ashba. The official site of Guns N 'Roses states that "Robin continues to be a part of GN'R, based on Guns history and its involvement in Chinese Democracy".
After the departure of NIN live band members Alessandro Cortini and Josh Freese at the end of 2008 Finck and bassist Justin Meldal-Johnson returned in groups [10] with band leader Trent Reznor and new drummer Ilan Rubin and 4-piece band finishing 8-visiting Australia and Zealand tour New between February and March 2009. Finck continued to perform alongside the band's 2009 Nine Inch Nails/Janes Addiction (NIN | JA) tour, with performances throughout North America [11], and the ensuing Wave Race tour through Europe and Asia. The band then returned to the US to play a series of events that culminated in the final appearance of Nine Inch Nails live.
In October 2009, Finck and former members of the band Guns N 'Roses, Axl Rose, Tommy Stinson and Buckethead were named in a lawsuit by electronic musician Ulrich Schnauss, independent label Independiente and Domino stating that they had committed copyright infringement by using parts- part of his composition in the song "Riad 'n the Bedouins". Personal life
Since 2001, Finck has been married to acrobat Bianca Sapetto, by whom he has a daughter. They met while working at Cirque du Soleil. In addition to being a musician he also creates artwork and displays some of his own pictures and photographs on his website. In 2007 he contributed the artwork in the form of ink drawings to the album Frames by Oceansize at the request of their Gambler guitarist. In 2003, Finck was credited as one of the production authors called "My Birthday Party", which included acrobatics, storytelling, music, acting, and jokes. The show includes actor Viggo Mortensen and performed at the Miles Memorial Playhouse in Santa Monica, California.
On February 23, 2009, session drummer Josh Freese, who has become Finck's bandmate at Guns N 'Roses and Nine Inch Nails, announced that as part of the pricing strategy for his new solo album Since 1972 the one-time package for $ 75,000 will include "flying trapeze lessons with Josh and Robin from NIN" followed by a visit to Robin's place afterward where "his wife will make you raw lasagna".
Finck is known for his theatrical performances while performing, using makeup, costumes and clothing to enhance his stage presence. He is also known for going out into eccentric dance moves during songs with various facial expressions. In between tours and appearances, he often makes radical changes to his image, and is well known among fans because of his distinctive and often unusual hairstyle. Axl Rose described him as the leader of "one of the most different lives that I know started with a trapeze in his backyard to a tv in a closet"
Tools
Finck is very closely related to the Gibson Les Paul guitar and uses various versions of guitars built of various types of wood and comes with various combinations of pickups (in 2006 he photographed in New York City Gibson Guitar showroom collecting Custom Les Paul Standard '58 Reissue for use in a tour with Guns N 'Roses). Many of them have been customized and he often moves the pickup pickup switch from the top of the guitar body, because he says the default configuration is obstructive. After rejoining Nine Inch Nails in 2008 he started using several other guitars on stage, including baritone guitar Jerry Jones (similar to Danelectro guitar), Fender Jazzmasters, Fender Telecasters and Gibson ES-355s.
In 2009 Finck signed with Schecter Guitar Research as an official supporter and began using Schecter guitars while on tour with NIN, including a custom version of PT Fastback and Ultra III. He also ordered a "Tempest Classic" guitar with a gold finish, a built-in compressor and a wah effect in place of two-tone controls. At the end of 2009 Schecter issued a press release announcing Robin Finck's limited edition signature guitar based on Ultra Cure and Ultra III models entering production. Finck is also listed as a Godin guitar user on the company's official website and can be seen playing Godin's guitar on the Nine Inch Nails Live DVD And All That Could Have Been.
He uses a variety of guitar amps (various models with Marshall Amplification and Mesa Boogie) and effects (including BOSS DD-5 Digital Delay, Dunlop wah-wah, Devi Ever bit, fuzz legend, and RockTron Vodoo Valve) and is known to work very hard for recreating the tone and texture of the studio while playing on stage. He often pushes his guitar body against his amplifier speakers during live performances to produce increased feedback and distortion. For some NIN songs he has been known to use e-bow, as seen during the clip for "La Mer" on And All That Could Have Been live DVD.
While his main role in Guns N 'Roses is the lead guitarist, Finck is credited with playing some electronic keyboard parts on Chinese Democracy . Similarly, although he performed with Nine Inch Nails primarily as a guitarist he often played other instruments on stage, including a rotary steel guitar (with effect pedals fitted to the instrument body), ukulele, mandolin and keyboard/synthesizer. He also contributed to support vocals.
