Photo Booth originated when Lewis Helfand, a prolific writer, approached the Novel Graphic Campfire with the idea of ââan Indian romance story made in New York. The plot contains two time zones, one of which is set in 2010 and another set in 1990. This flashback method fits the style of the popular story used in the Indian epic known as The Mahabharata ââI. The idea of ââusing Indian characters in foreign settings also matches trends in popular Bollywood movies such as Chandni Chowk to China and Kismat Konnection . According to Lewis Helfand, the graphic novel format is as powerful as movies and music: "Graphical novels are just different media, different ways of telling a story.Just like you can get lost in a song or a great movie, graphic novels can capture your imagination in a way the same one. Plot
The opening section of Photo Booth focuses on Praveer Rajani, an Interpol agent who is investigating a new lethal drug that floods the streets of New York City. Through the narrative, the reader is informed of Rajani's fears: that he feels lost, and often wonders whether he has chosen the right path in life.
Themes
In the opening scene, there are visual symbols connected with the Upanishads: the philosophical texts considered to be the earliest source of Hinduism. Such symbols are arrows and lightning.
Throughout the Photo Booth, there is concentration on key areas of Hinduism such as dharma . In the double story of the graphic novel, there is concentration on dharma Praveer Rajani in terms of his devotion to his career and his family. The worshiper must ultimately make a decision about where his duty must lie: with his family, or a grudge that is gnawing at his life. The idea of ââ ahimsa , Hinduism's main belief, is also discussed in the story. Despite anger and violence, Praveer Rajani will try to comply with nonviolent ideas in solving a problem from his past. Ahimsa (translated as meaning not to harm, or avoid violence), promoted by Indian political and ideological leader, Mohandas Karamchand Gandhi.
