The Mae West Lip Sofa is a surreal statue in the form of a sofa by Salvador DalÃÆ'. Pink, 86.5 x 183 x 81.5 cm (34 x 72 x 32 in) wooden and satin seating furniture was formed in 1937 after the lips of actress Mae West, apparently found interesting. DalÃÆ' was never meant for a sofa to serve functional use. He also claimed that he partially based the design of the sofa on a pile of rocks near CadaquÃÆ' Â © s and Portlligat, where he lived for many years with his wife, Gala ÃÆ' â € ° luard DalÃÆ'.

Edward James, patron of British surreal men in the 1930s, originally commissioned this piece from DalÃÆ'. Now part of the art collection at the Boijmans Van Beuningen Museum in Rotterdam. Another version is on display at DalÃÆ'¡ Theater and Museum in Figueres, Catalonia, Spain. A version is owned by the Victoria and Albert Museum, after exhibiting another example at the 2007 Sure Sure Things: Surrealism and Design exhibition.

In 1972, the Italian design group Studio 65 produced the latest version of DalÃÆ''s Mae West Lips Sofa , called Marilyn Bocca Sofa in honor of Marilyn Monroe's sex actress and sex symbol. Unlike the original work of Dalà ©, Marilyn Bocca Sofa has a more practical use at home, and has become a classic modern design icon.
