Electro dance (otherwise known as Tecktonik and Milky Way ) is a frenzied and unique street dance form that is usually performed for electro house music. It is based on, though not limited to, a mix of different dance styles, such as industrial dance, chauna moroccan, disco, vogue, waacking, hip-hop and free-handed glowsticking. It started in 2000 and originated from the southern suburbs of Paris, France, mainly from the nightclub Metropolis and has grown worldwide. Techno music and fast home electro imported from Northern Europe is the usual choice for Tecktonic dancing.
The electro dance is mostly about arm movements, taking the basic elements of glowsticking like the Freehand concept, Figure 8 and the Left Hand idea (one hand following the geometric), while remaining deeply in disco flavor, by reinforcing the points and poses as the main aspect for this style. Under the electro dancers tend to use the hips, knees, and legs to gently shuffle on the floor with the rhythm of the music, quite often in random and jerky ways. They also tend to incorporate toprock elements, b-boy-like footwork, lend to the influence of hip-hop in many home electro music.
The term "Tecktonik" is a registered trademark which started in Paris, and this has created problems for dance events or other uses of the name. The creators of the Tecktonic brand (especially Cyril Blanc, artistic director of Metropolis) sell official products, such as clothing, CD Matts, and energy drinks.

History
In 2002, Cyril Blanc and Alexandre Barouzdin organized the "Tecktonic Killer" party under their project called "Tecktonic Events" whose goal was to promote in France two styles of music originating from Belgium and the Netherlands: hard style and jumpstyle style. The project predicted, at the Metropolis nightclub, the creation of three types of parties where the DJs of the hardstyle genre would meet: "Blackout" night, night "Electro Rocker" and "Tecktonic Killer". Cyril explains that the name "Tecktonik" is a pun on the theory of plate tectonics.
Together with the tecktonic assassins, Cyril and Alexandre create, with the help of designers and sales staff, the symbols that will surround the phenomenon: neon colors, gloves, tight clothing, etc. Given the success of these nights, Cyril Blanc filed an application for "Tecktonik" and "TCK" trademarks at the National Industrial Property Institute (INPI), and internationally in 2007, to prevent other clubs from promoting their party using those words. A number of products are then developed and marketed using these brand names, including energy clothing and drinks. Two other clubs in Paris then took over the Metropolis club; Mix Club and Red Light.
Tecktonik has enjoyed an increase in success and has spread to France and Tunisia through road meetings and videos available on the Internet. During 2007, mainstream media were attracted to the phenomenon, which further contributed to its spread. This dance is known by the general public through its appearance on video, including "Alive" by Mondotek, remix of Tepr from "A cause des Gar̮'̤ons" by Yelle, "Sucker" by Dim Chris, or a song by artist like Lorie. In September 2007, Techno Parade improved Tecktonik visibility.
In November 2007, TF1 became the official international agent for Tecktonik, with the aim of promoting a brand outside of France.
The club must get permission from Cyril Blanc and Alexandre Barouzdin to use the term "Tecktonik" or "TCK".
