Histori

Released in 1982, Reebok Freestyle was the first athletic shoe designed for women, although it also became quite popular among men. The shoe was made to accommodate aerobic exercise and was released during the peak of the aerobic turmoil of the 1980s. After the debut and success of Freestyle, Reebok began sponsoring clinics and training programs throughout the 1980s and 90s. His shoes can be seen on Jane Fonda's training video and class training, and the Step Reebok routine exercise was released in 1989.

In 1983, Reebok sales were more than $ 13 million, accounting for half of the company's total sales and the following year ended up with $ 66 million in sales.

The success of Freestyle and athletic shoe modes in the late 1980s saw new competition from Avia, LA Gear, and Nike. Many competitors, such as LA Gear and off-price retailers like Fayva, have models that look like high-top Freestyle complete with velcro cover.

Description

The Freestyle debuted as a terrycloth-tiered sneaker with "glove-soft" skin designed for aerobic exercise. The shoes are designed for fitness purposes but are used for casual wear as well. These shoes come in two different styles including under the ankles, like tennis shoes, or high-style ankle covers, such as basketball shoes. The high-top freestyle has two velcro straps that bind the ankle and are made in female size, but are considered unisex, also worn by men. Both low-top and high-top are offered in white, black, red, yellow, blue, pink, orange and green for years.

Use of athletics

Ms Olympia Cory Everson wore Freestyle tops often in competition, work, and in the ESPN BodyShaping program. Reebok sponsored the Los Angeles Laker Girls in the late 1980s and supplied them with white Freestyle crests. Since then, other professional cheerleading and dance teams have used Freestyles. The high school and college cheerleading teams have used Freestyles as their preferred shoe. It is also used in competitive aerobics.

Casual wear

Outside the gym, Freestyle became a popular casual outfit. Women can wear Freestyles with jeans, shorts, capri pants, sports pants, tights or leggings, and even as commuting shoes for work. In the 1980s, Freestyles was often seen with flop or slouch socks that are usually stretched across the bottom of the pants legs to help accentuate the shoe.
