Paper Towel Obsession â€

kitchen rolls (or kitchen paper ) is an absorbent towel made of non-cloth tissue paper. Unlike cloth towels, paper towels are disposable and are intended for use only once. Paper towels absorb water because they are loosely woven that allow water to flow between the fibers, even against gravity (capillary effect). Paper towels can be individually packaged (such as a pile of folded or rolled towels) or come in rolls. Paper towels have the same purpose as conventional towels, such as hanging hands, wiping windows and other surfaces, cleaning dust and cleaning up spills.

Histori

In 1907, The Scott Paper Company of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, introduced a paper network to help prevent the spread of colds from cloth towels in the toilet. The popular belief is that this is partially unintentional and is the solution to a railroad car filled with long rolls of paper intended for toilet paper that are not suitable for cutting rolls of toilet paper. In 1919, William E. Corbin, Henry Chase, and Harold Titus began experimenting with paper towels at the Research and Development of the Brown Company building in Berlin, New Hampshire. In 1922, Corbin refined their product and began mass production at Cascade Mill on the Berlin/Gorham line. This product is called Nibroc Paper Towels (Corbin spelled backwards). In 1931, Scott Paper Company of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, introduced rolls of paper towels for the kitchen; now they are the leading paper towel manufacturer.

Production

Paper made from either virgin or recycled paper pulp extracted from wood or plant fibers. They are sometimes bleached during the production process to lighten the paper dye. It is not uncommon for rolls of paper towels to include complex colored drawings on each square (like a flower or a teddy bear). Resin sizes are used to increase wet strength. Paper towels are individually packaged and sold as stacks, or stored in continuous rolls, and come in two different classes: domestic and institutional. Many companies produce paper towels. Some of them include, but are not limited to: Charmin, Bounty, Seventh Generation, Scott, and Viva, among many others.

Market

North American tissue products, including paper towels, can be divided into "consumer" and "commercial" markets, with household consumers' use accounting for about two-thirds of North America's total consumption. Commercial use, or other use outside of North American households, accounts for one-third of North American consumption. The growing commercial use of paper towels can be attributed to the migration of a folded towel (in public bathrooms, for example) to roll towel dispensers, which reduces the number of paper towels used by each shield.

In the forest products industry, paper towels are a major part of the "network market", second only to toilet paper. The consumption of paper towels and other network products is the highest in the United States at around 24 kilograms (53 pounds) per capita and year (total about 7.8,000 tonnes (7,700 ton long, 8,600 short tons) per year), 50% higher than in Europe and almost 500% higher than in Latin America.

Environmental issues

Paper towels are a global product with increased production and consumption. Being second in network consumption only for toilet paper (36% vs 45% in the US), the proliferation of most paper towels that can not be recycled has the same global detrimental effect on the environment as shown in network articles. A better alternative is still a conventional towel or - for hand dryers - hand dryers. Although paper towels are more efficient, after just ten seconds, paper towels reach 90% dryness. The hot air dryer, on the other hand, takes 40 seconds to reach a similar drought.
