The 2015 Mustang marks the 50th anniversary of Mustang's relentless production, which began in March 1964 before the original Mustang debut at the 1964 New York World Show on April 17, 1964 in Flushing, Queens.
Development of the Mustang 2015, codenamed "S550," began in 2009 under the chief engineer Dave Pericak and (from the end of 2009) executive design director Joel Piaskowski, shortly after the 2010 model that updated the Mustang year went on sale. Curic (also responsible for 2011 Focus (2012 in the US) and 2014 Mondeo/Fusion) moved to Ford design studio in Dearborn in January 2011. During the development phase, the original Curic's original exterior design proposal was eventually rejected by Ford executives, resulting in rapid design changes. After reviewing 3 different exterior theme proposals (A, B, and C) at the design clinic in September 2012, the final exterior design (The A) was approved by Ford management, with a final design freeze taking place in December 2012, 20 months before originally scheduled for production in August 2014. The interior design program began in the spring of 2010, under Doyle Letson. By the end of 2011, the final interior proposal is finalized and is a combination of A & amp; B. In June 2012, the final interior design was frozen. The first test rat on the 2010 model year body was seen earlier in June 2012, and the first S550 prototype was built five months later (freezing exterior design) in May 2013.
