Hennessey Performance Engineering Builds 600-HP Lincoln Navigator ...
src: icdn2.digitaltrends.com

The Lincoln Navigator is a full-sized luxury SUV sold and marketed by Lincoln Ford Motor Company since 1998. Sold primarily in North America, Navigator is Lincoln's partner of Ford Expedition. Although not the longest vehicle ever sold by the brand, it was the toughest Lincoln production ever built. Lincoln also has the largest cargo capacity and the first non-limousine Lincoln offers seats for more than six people.

Lincoln Navigator was the first Lincoln (apart from Lincoln Versailles) to be manufactured in a factory outside the Wixom Assembly Plant since 1958. From 1997 to 2009, production was sourced at the Michigan Assembly Factory in Wayne, Michigan. Since 2007, production has also come from the Kentucky Truck Plant in Louisville, Kentucky.

In the late 1980s, in the United States, sport vehicles gradually began to shift from special off-road vehicles to dedicated family vehicles, similar to station trains. In 1991, Jeep Grand Wagoneer ended its 28 years of production. However, at the time of termination, the vehicle has gained a reputation for its high content, featuring the same content as a luxury sedan. After official entry into the United States in 1987, Range Rover was upgraded at a higher price.

In response, General Motors introduced Oldsmobile Bravada in 1991, convincing several other manufacturers to introduce medium-sized luxury SUVs. As a full-size SUV like the Chevrolet Suburban and Ford Expedition is a very lucrative vehicle, Lincoln Navigator came back to life.

First generation (1998-2002)

Lincoln Navigator was launched on July 1, 1997 for the 1998 model, with the first vehicle sliding off the assembly line on May 14, 1997. Based directly from Ford Expedition, introduced the previous year, Navigator gave Lincoln-Mercury the first full-size SUV division (placed over Mercury Mountaineer which is Ford Explorer based).

In the first year of calendar sales (1998), Navigator contributed to unprecedented events in recent decades - overtaking Lincoln's brand by Cadillac a perennial rival in annual sales volume. Initially, the published figures indicate that Cadillac has sold more Lincoln with 222 vehicles sold, thanks to a big jump in Cadillac Escalade sales in December 1998, from hundreds in the previous month to nearly 5,000. The subsequent audit resulted in a retraction/apology in May 1999, which linked "low" employees with "overzealous" employees.

Chassis

Lincoln Navigator was also developed under the code name of the Ford UN173 program, with an Expedition developed under the UN93 program code name. Full body-on-frame vehicle, Navigator mechanically linked to Ford Expedition; both vehicles were linked to the 1997 Ford F-Series. Like many upscale SUVs, the Navigator featured an independent short-arm (SLA) suspension; rear suspension is a rear axle design life. Using the optional features of its Ford partner, the Navigator is designed with load-level air suspension; Especially for ride comfort, the air suspension is lowered on its own when the vehicle is parked.

Although technically available with rear-wheel drive, the main drivetrain on the Lincoln Navigator is ControlTrac, a computer-controlled four-wheel drive system. Like the Expedition, the Navigator is equipped with four-wheel anti-lock disc brakes.

Using the same Triton V8 5.4 liter Triton with Expedition/F-150 paired with 4R-speed 4R100 automatic transmission, the Lincoln Navigator 1998 comes with a 7,700 pound (3,500 kg) towing capacity. During 1999, Lincoln will install two different engines in the Navigator in an effort to match the full size SUV from General Motors. At the beginning of the model year, the Triton V8 was upgraded to 260 hp; as the change goes during the model year, Lincoln will replace the SOHC Triton with a 300 hp DOHC 5.4L V8, named InTech (borrowed name from Mark VIII). Due to increased power, the crane capacity will increase to more than 8,500 pounds (3,900 kg).

Body

Although Lincoln Navigator shares the same bodyshell as the Ford Expedition, giving a similar exterior appearance, the Lincoln stylist will make many design changes to distinguish the two vehicles. In front of the windshield, Lincoln Navigator does not share the body panels with its Ford counterpart, with its own front fascia (grille designs shared with Lincoln Town Car 1998 and LS 2000 Lincoln), wheels, roof racks, lower body trims and lights back. The interiors of the two vehicles share more similarities, with a common dash for both vehicles (with the use of larger wood trims); The navigator is given its own seat design. To create a quieter interior above Expedition and Ford F-Series, Navigator uses more deadly sounds and higher-quality carpets.

The Lincoln Navigator includes standard features available or optional on Expeditions, including power drivers and passenger bucket seats, 2nd row bucket seats (with 2nd row bench as removal option), floor console, and keyless entry. Some of the options available include moonroof strength, universal garage door opener, 7 to 8 eight passengers electrochromic rearview mirror (filtering spotlights from vehicles seen in the mirror), and a premium audio system (seven speakers, 290 - Audio audio system with 6-disk CD-changer mounted on the front console, and rear seat audio control), and 17-inch alloy wheels.

During the production process, Lincoln made some changes to the first-generation Navigator. In 1999, along with the addition of InTech V8, adjustable brake power and accelerator pedals were added; the optional 17-inch wheels are standard.

For 2000, the radio antenna mounted on the fender was integrated into the rear window right, while the interior received a nudo leather seating surface. The list of options is expanded to include satellite navigation systems, heated and cooled front seats, reversed sensing systems, and side impact airbags.

For 2001, some minor cosmetic changes were made. On the grille and tailgate, the Lincoln symbol is given a black background (replacing the previous red); at the back door, Lincoln and Navigator badging to the side. VHS-based video entertainment system becomes an option. Second generation (2003-2006) Second generation >

For 2003, a number of changes and improvements were made to the Navigator thanks to a thorough redesign. The Navigator continues to share the platform with Ford Expedition, which was also redesigned for 2003, but remains different in terms of styling and top-class features. The 2003 rework design features a thoroughly revised exterior, the first since the launch of the Navigator, with only the front door and roof panels unchanged from the previous generation. The new exterior comes with things like a larger chrome waterfall grille, lighter quad-beam headlights with bigger houses, an improved chrome door handle arranged in colorful bezel, and a slightly wider walking board. Inside the Navigator there is an instrument panel and a new dashboard area that, significantly, is not shared with Expeditions. Inspired by the symmetrical layout, the "dual-cockpit" of Continental Lincoln 1961, the instrument panel and dash area are adorned with original walnut burl inserts and wood panels and switches painted in low-gloss satin nickel colors. Adding to the upscale interior design further is white LED, 120 in all, which provides backlight for controls and switches. In addition, to draw attention to the high-quality, satin-quality analog clock mounted on the dashboard, an articulated door is present to hide the radio head unit and optional satellite navigation system when not in use.

Highlighting the design changes Navigator is another new feature and option for 2003. New features available such as Ford's Safety Canopy side curtain airbags and tire pressure monitoring systems enhance passenger safety. Comfort is enhanced by the availability of power boards (industry first), third row seat that doubles power, power liftgate, and HID headlamps (for upper end models). The updated back seat video entertainment system is DVD-based and all Navigators now come with standard 18x7.5 inch alloy wheels with 18x8 inch chrome wheels available as an option.

Like the redesigned 2003 Expedition (U222), the Navigator utilizes a reworked chassis, new rack-and-pinion steering, and new independent rear suspension (IRS), which brings better handling and ride comfort. The navigator continues to benefit from a load-carrying air suspension but now lowers the vehicle by an inch when it stops for the sake of easing in and out. The Powertrain Navigator has been modified from UN173, but the previously used 5.4A L DOHC V8 is no longer advertised under the InTech name. But now it produces 300 hp (224 kW) at 5500 rpm and 355 lb ft (481 N m) of torque at 3750 rpm. Due to the changes brought with the redesign, the weight of the Navigator's basic sidewalks increased to 5,760 lb (2,610 rpm). kg) in a two-wheel drive model and nearly 6,000 pounds (2,700 kg) in a four-wheel drive model. In turn, the pulling capacity falls slightly.

Tire pressure monitoring is standard for 2004 while Ford AdvanceTrac , a type of traction control system, with Roll Stability Control is an option. In 2004, for 2005 the Navigator received a minor facelift with a new square-shaped foglight replacing the previously used circular. AdvanceTrac with RSC is now standard while HID lamps are available in all models. For the benefit of cost effectiveness, the 5.4 LLHHHC V8 introduced in the 1999 model was replaced with the same 5.4 L 3-valve SOHC V8 that has been available in the F-150 since the 2004 model year. Despite having a different head design, the new engine It offers the same overall results, producing 300 hp (220 kW) at 5000 rpm and 365 lb ft (495 Nm) of torque at 3750 rpm. On a side note, the new machine is not marketed under the name Triton in the Navigator even though it is mechanically identical to the F-150 engine. The 4R75W 4-speed automatic transmission used from 2003 to 2004 was replaced with the new ZF Friedrichshafen AG-6 high-speed automatic transmission. The basic sidewalk weight of Navigator 2005 drops to 5,555 pounds (2,520 kg) while the four-wheel drive model drops to 5,842 pounds (2,650 kg). The increased capacity slightly increased from the previous year's model to 8,600 pounds (3,900 kg) in the two-wheel drive model and 8,300 pounds (3,800 kg) in the four-wheel drive model. For 2006, the Ultimate Elite trim level Ultimate package is available, including a DVD-based satellite navigation system with voice-activated touchscreen, THX audio system, rear - DVD entertainment system, and HID lamps.

Third generation (2007-2017)

Navigator was redesigned under the code name of the U326 program, with new style and mechanical features for 2007. Inaugurated at the Chicago Auto Show in February 2006, the Navigator featured the most distinctive styling updates since it was introduced with new front and rear fascia and side plating.. At the front there is a large chrome grille that resembles a classic Lincoln cabin like the 1963 Continental, a more complex new headlamp design, lower chrome grille with integrated fog lamps, and a more prominent "power dome" hood. Elsewhere, the updated rear taillights feature Lincoln MKZ-inspired taillights and chrome trims more prominently used along side the Navigator, including chrome bottom body molds on doors. The Navigator's exterior features follow the interior, highlighted by dashboards and new all-round instrument panels. These areas see the widespread use of rectangular shapes, as in gauges, as well as greater use of native wood and satin wood accents.

Accompanying Navigator redesign for 2007 is a new model, Navigator L developed under the U418 program code name. Comparable to Cadillac Escalade ESV, Navigator L is 14.7 inches (370 mm) longer than the standard Navigator on a 12 inch (300 mm) wheelbase longer, increasing cargo capacity. Navigator L was introduced parallel to the EL Expedition, an advanced version of Ford Expedition. Both Navigator and Expedition were redesigned for 2007 and based on the Ford T1 platform, which is linked to the same platform based on the F-150 2004. Compared to previous Navigator platforms, this new platform provides greater stiffness for better driving dynamics. Independent rear suspension has been replaced with a new five-link IRS design to further improve the handling and quality of the vehicle. Navigator continues to come with standard 18-inch alloy wheels but both 20 and 22 inch wheels are now available. The 5.4 L 3-valve SOHC V8 introduced in Navigator 2005 remained unchanged for 2007. The 6-speed ZF Friedrichshafen automatic transmission was replaced by Ford's own 6-speed 6R80 design for the 2009 model. Due to the Navigator redesign, the basic weights the object increased to 5,872 pounds (2,663 kg) in a two wheel drive model and 6,070 pounds (2,750 kg) in a four wheel drive model. The Navigator L model is even heavier at 5,963 pounds (2,705 kg) in a two-wheel drive model and £ 6.221 (2,822 kg) in a four-wheel drive model. Nonetheless, thanks to their increased frame, Navigator's pullout capacity increased for 2007, approaching 9,000 pounds (4,100 kg) in a two-wheel drive model.

Since redesigning the 2007 model, Navigator no longer uses the same transfer case as Expedition. The expedition four-wheel drive continues to use two-speed two-speed transfer cases with off-road low-loss off-road drivers and a default off-road program that remap (re-program) electronic throttle control and traction control system response to off-road conditions. The four-wheel drive navigator has been lowered to a single-speed single-speed transfer case that does not have a low gear range.

For 2008, the packaging for the simplified Navigator's simpler features and simplicity, resulting in the elimination of the annual Luxury and Ultimate levels and the standardization of a number of previously optional features. Some of the new features of this standard include heated and cooled front seats, triple row seats are doubled, power liftgate, and THX II-Certified 600-Watt 14-speaker audio system. Also the new standard is 3.31: 1 rear axle ratio, although a ratio of 3.73: 1 is still available as an option for Navigator and remains standard in Navigator L. New available rearview camera to help backup.

For 2009, the 5.4 L V8 Navigator gained 10 hp (7.5 kW) as well as flex-fuel capability. New rear view camera for 2008 is now standard, such as heated second row seats, Front Park Assist, uncovered fuel filler, windshield wiper, and Lincoln SYNC.

The third-generation navigator and Navigator L continue to be offered for the 2010 model year, with only minor changes.

For 2011, both Navigator and Navigator L display HD Radio, Sirius TravelLink, and Lincoln SYNC as standard on all trims.

For the 2013 model year, the only changes made to the Navigator are the addition of new color trims: Kodiak Brown Metallic Tri-Coat, Midnight Sapphire Metallic, and Clear Ruby Red Metallic Ruby.

The 2014 model is the rest of 2013 with the same features and no cosmetic changes. This will be the last model year that will feature the front fascia grille.

2015 Refresher

In March 2013, Ford has confirmed reports that the next generation Lincoln Navigator will not be a repackaged Ford Expedition like the previous generation, despite following MKX in terms of sales but ahead of MKT but hoping to make it more competitive in the luxury SUV segment as they prepare to take the Cadillac Escalade, the Infiniti QX80 and the Mercedes-Benz GL-Class, each of which has or will be launching a new generation in 2013 or 2014, and will be designed by the new Lincoln design team that also designed the new 2013 MKZ. It will be completely new and will feature 3.5 Ecoboost, new interior and exterior and improved performance. But in May 2013, the Navigator prototype with a different front grille was tested with EcoBoost in preparation for the updated Navigator, followed by more spy shots taken in September 2013 which are an updated Lincoln's revolving front grill sports.

On January 22, 2014, three photos of Navigator 2015 were released on Twitter and Instagram, along with the announcement that the refreshed SUV will be revealed at the Washington Auto Show the following day (January 23, 2014). However, a few hours after the leak was published, Lincoln held a press event in Detroit for the vehicle and revealed an updated Navigator earlier than expected.

Navigator and Navigator L 2015 maintain the same exterior styling design as Expedition, not a repackaging previously reported by Ford. However, now features an updated front grille with tailgate tailgate that has a resemblance to Dodge Durango. The EcoBoost V6 engine is the only engine offered for the 2015 model year and produces 380-horsepower and 460-lb ft. The exterior includes HID headlamps with LED running lights and full LED back lights. The twenty-inch wheels became standard, replacing the 18-inch wheels, while the backup package features a 22-inch wheel. The dash panel features MyLincoln Touch with Sync as standard and controlled via an eight-inch touchscreen on the dashboard, and home to a twin 4.2 inch screen flanking the center speedometer, falls in line with the rest of the Lincoln model. The push button start becomes standard, as are passive entries and rear-view cameras. Blind spot monitoring is added as an optional feature.

The updated and redesigned L L Navigator and Navigator L is being produced in Summer 2014, and arrives at dealerships in fall 2014 as a 2015 model.

Fourth_generation_.282018.E2.80.93present.29 "> Fourth Generation (2018-present)

On April 12, 2017, the fourth-generation LincolnTracker 2018 was introduced at the New York Automotive Exhibition 2017. Like the previous generation, the fourth generation remains Lincoln's partner of Ford Expedition, offered in standard configuration and long wheelbase (Lincoln Navigator L). As before, two and four-wheel drive versions are offered.

The fourth generation marks a significant change in the exterior styling of the Navigator, as it adopts the styling feature of Continental Lincoln 2017. In another major shift, the model line adopts aluminum body construction.

Chassis

The fourth-generation Lincoln Navigator uses the Ford T3 platform, developed under the code name U554. Maintaining body-on-frame construction, Lincoln Navigator (and Ford Expedition) is engineered with the Ford F-150 2015. The four-wheel independent suspension configuration is maintained, with a redesigned rear suspension layout.

Divided with the Ford F-150 Raptor, the Lincoln Navigator is equipped with 4Lhours 24L EcoBoost V6 (although Lincoln has ended the use of EcoBoost nomenclature). The highest-output engine ever sold by Lincoln, the 3.5L V6 is paired with a 10-speed automatic transmission (replacing the previous 6-speed automatic).

Body

Enter production with only a slight change from the Lincoln Navigator concept vehicle featured at the 2016 New York Car Show (removing gullwing doors and ladder-style walkboards, used mostly for display purposes). The Lincoln Navigator 2018 adopts some of the design features of the Continental Lincoln 2017, including the style of headlights, rear lights, side vents, and front fascia, with large rectangular grille and centered Lincoln star symbols. When handing out the roof lines and side doors with Ford Expedition, in the Range Rovers style, the B, C, and D pillars are blackened for the "floating roof" effect.

Like the Ford F-150 2015, the fourth-generation Lincoln Navigator body (and Ford Expedition) is designed as part of a shift to aluminum body construction, with the use of steel largely reserved for chassis rail frames. Nearly 200 pounds lighter than the previous generation, the fourth-generation Navigator is physically larger than its predecessor, with a standard wheelbase configuration that gets three inches in wheelbase, while the L-length wheelbase reaches nearly an inch (the longest wheelbase Lincoln has produced ). In terms of body length, both versions are shortened by about half an inch.

Shared with Lincoln Continental, the Lincoln Navigator 2018 dashboard replaces the conventional console (or column) -mount shifter with dashboard-mounted button and paddle shifter. For the first time in the model line, the fourth generation Navigator offers a front view along with a recyclable 12-inch instrument cluster.

Crop

The fourth generation Lincoln Navigator continues the same cut line introduced in 2015 model updates, with Premiere (new for Navigator for 2018) as standard trim, Select as middle trim, and Reserve as the highest trim level.

Along with the rise of Continental, the fourth-generation Navigator marked the debut of the Lincoln Black Label series. A series of vehicles with interiors and exteriors coordinating around the theme (similar to the Lincoln and Continental Series Designers of the 1970s and 1980s), the Navigator is sold with three Black Label themes: Chalet, Destination, and Yacht Club.

With a base price of about $ 95,000, the Black Label Edition Lincoln Navigator is the most expensive vehicle ever sold by Ford Motor Company (with the exception of Ford GT)
