The magazine was founded in November 2004 by Giles Cooper as an independently published guide to restaurants and tourist attractions in Chester and was first published by UK IO Publishing Ltd in Chester. In May 2005, the edition covering the Manchester area was also published along with an edition that included Chester, and in November 2006, the Liverpool edition was published. The three titles are published separately every May and November to May 2009, when it was decided to merge the three titles into one directory for North West and North Wales.
In March 2014 INOUT was sold to Jazz Fashion Publishing Ltd.

INOUT is divided into two general sections: Keep In and Out:
- The inside includes: In â € <â €
- The Out section includes: Exit News, Dining Outside (restaurant guide for Chester, Liverpool, Manchester and North Wales), Places & amp; Hotel, Health, Beauty & amp; Style and Comfort, Art & amp; Culture.
- There is also an Event Guide that covers three months of each listing problem and directory. Regular features include columns by industry experts, cookbook reviews, and articles about food trends and food history.
Awards
INOUT Magazine works closely with the regional Tourist Board. In 2008, INOUT sponsored the Visit Chester and Cheshire Tourism Awards, and in 2010, sponsored the Best Self Establishment of the Year of the Anglesey Tourism Awards division.
In 2007, INOUT Magazine was awarded Weber Shandwick Award for Improving the Image of Food and Beverage Industry at Northwest Food Awards.
Online presence
INOUT launched its website to complement the magazine in 2006, and the new INOUT website just launched in summer 2014.
The magazine has an active presence on Facebook, Twitter, and YouTube.
