Two Strand Twists for Kids | Natural Hair - YouTube

Hair twists , flat bends , or mini bends , are popular hairstyles with Afro-textured hair in the United States, and sometimes with other textures hair. This style is achieved by dividing the hair into several parts, twisting the hair, then twisting two strands of hair that are wrapped around each other. They can also be made with one hair at a time, with a comb. They should not be confused with bigger, longer, (or "locs") dreadlocks.

Liku can be made when natural curly hair is still wet and somewhat relaxed from immersion with hot water; when hair dries, it will shrink, creating a texture that is woven tightly into the hair curl. Rolls can also be done with dry hair for different textures. Twists can be combined with other hairstyles at the same time, like afro-puff and Afro.

To maintain the twist hairstyle, wearers are advised by hairdressers to cover their hair with hijab or durag at night.

Plays out

The variation of twisted hairs is called "twist out", in which the twisted hair is twisted to create a large, loosely-wrinkled texture, similar in appearance to crimping hair on a normally Caucasian textured hair. There are two different variations for "twist out," one method can be done using two haircuts and another method using three pieces of hair called "three stand twist out". Both produce a textured hairstyle when not rolled.

Other twist hair styles include Senegal twists, Marley bends, and Havana bends. All of these hairstyles require certain types of hair extensions mounted on a person's head. These styles have been labeled as protective styles because they protect one's natural hair from everyday manipulation. The Senegal arch is from Senegal, Africa, and is generally performed in African hair salons across the United States. This style uses Kanekalon synthetic hair, which can last from one to three months. Marley and Havana twists are the newer hair styles that are widespread in the black hair community by 2013. They look very similar to each other, but have a clear distinction. Marley bend using Marley hair extensions that can be found in most hair equipment stores from various hair companies and Havana twists using Havana hair extensions sold by some companies that are only available online. Havana bends are generally done with fewer twists than Marley hairstyles and also have less weight because the hair texture is more fluffier than Marley's hair. Both hairstyles like Senegal can last from one to three months, but should not be stored for longer periods of time. Because of this hairstyle technique, a person's natural hair can begin to tangle or form dreadlocks.
